My Take On Cheat Days

Okay, so a lot of people out there say that cheat days don’t work, and that they lead to destruction down the road. A lot of people say too, that eating a little bit of treat food each day in moderation is okay. It is, but for me, the cheat day approach works better both physically and mentally.

I tried it yesterday (as per recommendation of my PT), and I really enjoyed it. Maybe it’s because i’m an all or nothing type of person in general, no matter what I do. I didn’t go crazy with it, and I pretty much stayed within my calorie allowance (kinda, sorta, maybe a few 100 over… but that’ll hopefully go to muscle anyways). I treated myself to a frappucino, had dinner out, didn’t exercise, and had my favorite yogurt-organic cereal instead of my bran flakes or high fiber cereal. So, I was in my calorie allowance, and I didn’t go completely overboard with sweets.

For me, the whole “treats in moderation” thing makes me feel kind of scattered. Like, i’ll feel as if I failed because I have something sweet each day, and I get so scared i’ll go overboard. But, with the cheat day, I found that I have so much less anxiety about going out to eat, or eating sweets, whether it’s in my calorie allowance or not.

I know this doesn’t work for a lot of people, but for me it really helps me out, and relieves a lot of anxiety, especially since I don’t have trouble eating healthy every other day of the week. It doesn’t work for some, but it seems to work for me!
